Thought I would put this in this thread, just a photo op for east of Scotland photographers Currently there is a Jack up oil rig in Dundee docks, nothing unusual about that except it is actually jacked up and towering over the city. The reason for this is it needs some bits chopped off its legs before it can go back on duty in the North Sea, it is currently standing at 300ft, but can (or could) go to 550ft and makes for an impressive sight as it can be seen for miles around. Couple of mine below:-

Cool. Not often you see them jacked up off the waterline. Getting on/off board must be interesting

Hi Gareth,
I especially like the black and white one, with the light sparkling out from above the rig. I wonder how many variants of rig shots we'll see in the photo club competitions!
Iain.

Been misty as anything here today, couldn't see the platform this morning, wish it had been the other way around with the mist sitting on the Tay and the platform above the mist Thinking of nipping out for a bit tonight to get a long exposure or two, just hope i don't get arrested

Amazing machines considering they are designed to float when required. Seeing it jacked up so high makes it look almost like a tripod from War of the Worlds.

The noises were only matched by the intensity of the crew as the rig legs were jacked up. Quite a stressful time.

You should see the agitation they create on a submarine when they first start jacking the legs until they're identified as what they are...............
