How about the 24-105 f4 L? Not quite as fast, but lovely and a good overlap of focal length with the 70-200 when you're shooting and might not have the time to change lenses quickly

24-105 is a good lens, worth considering too.

My main lens is the 24-70 2.8 L lens...i just love this lens, as well as being great for groups, the field of view really suits my photojournalistic style...if you prefer the narrower field of view the 70-200 lens gives you then would you be best with a prime lens? just a though but I wouldn't spend all that money if you was only going to use it for groups...such a fantastic lens!!

Hi Joanne
I have both lenses and both are excellent.  The 24-105 is a bit more versatile with the extra reach though which is particularly handy on weddings.   Whilst I am keeping both lenses I am curretly selling a brand new 24-105 here on the forum.  It was won as a prize in a competition and has never been used.

I would also highly recommend the 24-105mm F4 L lens for group shots (and for a lot of other shots... too  Grin).

If you want a more cost effective version of the Canon 24-70 F2.8, have a look at the Tamron 28-75 F2.8 - not a bad lens at all and a lot cheaper. I love mine.
