I actually have this lens also and have to say that it is a cracking good lens
my only gripe is the huge 82mm filters it needs

Yes, it is a good lens, but I since I've had the Canon equivalent this has been more a of a back up lens and hasn't gotten any use. I think it's time for it to find a new home.

I have a friend who is looking to upgrade cameras and lenses but can't afford the Canon L's.

Used ones go on eBay for around £250-£300, so anything up to that I suppose. Have had a few offers of under £200, but that's a bit too low.
