Flying the Flag, Baby!

Scenario 1:
The other day, I'm invited by a photographer to the launch of their book.
Have a chat, have a drink, talk to a few other photographers, some give me cards "in case I'm too busy to do a job", etc.. no problem..
I enjoy the chat, share a bit, learn a bit etc..

Cool stuff!

Scenario 2:

My wife talks to another photographer and asks them innocently if they are going to be attending the convention (we are).
They laugh and giggle and say with the most arrogant manner: "Dear no! I'm beyond those events. They are more suited for amateurs such as yourselves!"

Personally, besides the fact that she made me laugh at loud at her manners, I kind of like to think that there might be a bit of a community spirit within the profession...or is it just me?

If I ever get too good to go to those events and learn... remind me to go to those events and present.  Cheesy Cheesy

Of course!
Gary Fong makes good money talking at conferences. Seen his new house/mansion?!
:O

But who knows, maybe she's too good to talk to people like you too!
 Huh?

Has she read some of these amateur photographic magazines lately........I've seen some staggering photography produced by these people, sometimes I wish I was still an amateur so that I'd have the time to get out there and take stuff like it....I'm too busy trying to run the business....  Grin

Have a hope, there are those of us out here who have the community spirit you're looking for, there are even some of us who would collaberate when its needed and work together, MarkC and me both agree on this.. Grin...it not good to alienate one another, that's bad vibes all round!  I have four photographers, no make that five local to me who I would gladly work with.  One of whom in fact I'm helping out at an event this week, he likewise an event I'm doing next year.

Take the snub as it was meant and stick her on the 'must avoid' list!   Undecided

My wife was the most annoyed because they basically got their new studio/gallery thanks to her finding grants for them.

I do take the point about finding time to go out there because my first love is landscape photography but there is so much preparation involved, I miss it.

Hopefully, if I have a really good year, I'll be able to take more time off.
