It's going to be fun, I have just received an e-mail from Vic Solomon of Manfrotto and I have good news from him. We're going to be able to play with some Litepanels at my Lighting and Posing 101 talk on Saturday.
Now this is going to get very interesting, we're talking cutting edge here.

And it gets better and better, I've just heard from Gordon Dpm Wallbank that he will do special prices for delegates who may be interested in Litepanels at the conference This is going to be great folks, I tell you

For anyone who didn't get to the superclass with David, I can only say that you missed out on a very, very, very good class. The lightbulbs David lit for me made the entire spend for the convention (and unwelcome adventure) worthwhile. The other classes I attended were very good too. D, T & F - you also gave me some very good, value for money stuff, but this post is about this class.
The litepanels were interesting and most of us could see an application for them, even though they weren't really a good substitute for using a flash (my opinion). What they were good for was to see exactly where the light was going to fall, so would help with practicing positioning lights (again, my opinion).
It was a shame that there were only 5 of us who went to the class. Everyone else? Well, you missed out in a huge way! David's demonstration of the really basic fundamentals of posing and lighting were amazing. Even though I thought I had a good handle on broad and narrow lighting, I had a real lightbulb moment while listening to his simple explanation. His demonstration of a pretty standard 2 light setup (the one we all see at events etc. everywhere) and the use of a different coloured gel on the 2 lights showed where I'd been going wrong with that setup and how it needed to be changed to be much more successful.
Finally for this: hands! Simple, simple, simple. Why do the books on posing not include this simple part of posing someone? And as shown by this master of our craft, it truly is simple.
If you missed it this year, don't miss it next. If you do, you're not going to get a jump-start on your competition in the way those of us who attended did. Thankyou David.

I was dissapointed not to make it this year due to work commitments, & David's classes would have been top of my list. No excuses for next year tho'

Matty, Thanks for those kind words. I really enjoyed the the quality time we spent together, perhaps not so much the anxious moments, but all is well that ends well!!!! someone much wiser than I must have thought that up.
And while on the subject thanks to those who came and gave the input..... invaluable...

Sad I missed this class Sounds like those panels are more like portable modelling lights than actual lighting?

They will actually light in the right situation. Very good as a fill in a location where the ambiance is good, but you need a bit of a lift on the subject matter. Not good for portraiture, almost a point light source so hot spots could become problematic.

I went to David's seminar at a previous SWPP conference and it was very good. I remember the gelling of the lights, green and red, to show what was happening wth the shadows, - worked really well. I would agree with Spamalot, don't miss it.
