Kevin,

Do you mind if I share these resources - obviously leaving all your contact links in place.

And as a special treat, for all you lovely people out there:  http://www.photographywebtips.co.uk/CreatingAWordpressBlog.pdf

A-Z of setting up a Wordpress blog (on wordpress.com)

Brilliant stuff Kevin, just what I was looking for. I recently set up a Blog on Blogspot, but I want to change to Wordpress and have a blog on my own domain.

Just a quick question, in step 1 when I initially sign up to wordpress, am I correct that I still have to sign up for a Wordpress address (i.e. myaddress.wordpress.com) and then once created, I will be able to map that address to my own sub-domain (i.e blog.myaddress.com) after signing up for the 12 USD per month.

Thanks again,

Steve

Steve

You can do that but it's much cheaper if you use a hosting package from somewhere like JustHost - http://www.justhost.com/

Once you have your space you then instal WordPress - this is all quite easily done and it's much cheaper.

It is quite confusing but http://wordpress.org/ and http://wordpress.com/ are quite different (the .com is the yourname.wordpress.com one)

I'd only use the myaddress.wordpress.com upgrade if you already have a lot of content already there.... although that can all be transferred

Hope that makes sense!

I should also add that after you've had a look at Kevin's PDF there's also a load of videos I've made which might help you out http://photocreative365.com/photocreative-tv/wordpress-tutorials/

For the basics stroll down to the bottom Wink

Yep - Michael got there first.  I self host (i.e don't host with Word Press) - the principles are the same but you are effectively using Wordpress on another server.  The PDF gives you the slingshot to get the system up and running.  You can then (for 12USD a month) redirect, or better still, as Michael says move it to a self hosted solution where you don't have the restrictions.

Thanks Guys. My site is self-hosted too, so I do not want to go via the Wordpress hosting either. My hostng company is Wordpress compatible, so I will dig around for instructions on how to set it up. Does that mean I can avoid the 12 Dollars charge?

It certainly does..... a self hosted WordPress installation is essentially free.... which is part of the reason it's so wonderful!  Grin

I recently changed one of my site from Joomla to WordPress and it was fairly simple process

Some of the companies that have dedicated Wordpress hosting options are NamesCo, 1and1 and 123Reg (I think).  As Michaels says - you will get a lot more out of self hosting - for free.
