I have always kept my main email address off my own website, and instead use an address that varies every year with a 3 month dual run for handover. As the spam level increases to a hundred a day by December, it is a relief when it falls to zero for a while after Christmas.
Today, however, I received 99 spam email to my main (mostly kept private) address, where normally I would expect 1 or 2
Has this happenned to anyone else?

I've used SpamArrest now for about 3 or 4 years and find it well worth the money. It filters all the rubbish out and all I need to do is check the box held on their servers every couple of days just in case there is something there that I want.

Yes! I once had an email address that the only outgoing mail I sent was to Adobe to purchase Lightroom within day's I was receiving email from casino sites and for the little blue pills the casino sites stopped sending mails after I discovered their support telephone number was an 0800 number so I phoned them every 30 minutes to complain and put the number in a couple of telephone boxes in the town.

If it helps - My 12 year old asked me about Viagra last week (in response to a zillion email offers to buy some). I told her that as I had diabetes I could get it on the NHS and that the silly people pestering me should know better. What she couldn't understand however was why anyone would need 50 adverts a day for penis extensions. I mean how much surgery can a man undertake?
To get back on thread Alan yes I've recently changed my business email and had the luxury of virtual spam free mail for a few weeks until Tuesday last week when it increased to an almost unmanageable level. My isp provides SPAM filters at a cost and I'm going to cough up for some to try and eliminate all bar the most persistent offenders. I even get SPAM that appears to have come from my other email addresses. Using them to send digital files to the other computers from time to time means that I have to allow me to send to me elsewhere (sorry is this confusing anyone?)
I'm sure our ISP's could do some research and find where the incessant spammers are coming from and issue fines or shut them down if they could really be bothered.

block the address, if they persit block the domain for a few weeks, that way they bounce back and they give up
A bit off topic but that worked for me when I was getting abusive e-mails from my wife's ex (some using my name and hers - though we did involve the police & BT when he started phoning in the middle of the night)

For the professional spammer its a wast of your time blocking their web address as they ghost on other peoples email addresses, I went on line one morning to discover about 500 notifications saying that an email I had sent could not be delivered it was some months until the notifications stopped, at this minute a spammer may be preparing to send his latest batch of spam for viagra out using your email address.

Yes had the same a few times myself Ken and the worst thing about that is that it results in MY address being blocked by potential clients. ISP's could do more to prosecute but don't

I went on holiday to New Zealand earlier this year (I know, lucky me) and on the way home in Korea I used a computer in the airport at Seoul to chat through MSN to my daughter to make final arrangements for her to pick us up at Heathrow. On that day all my friends that I had in my hotmail account got tons of spam email from me. As soon as I realised when I got back I changed my hotmail password and it stopped. I think they must have key loggers in these places so take care if you go online in a public place.
