Hi All,
I thought it might be a good idea to introduce myself, especially since I hope to meet you all at the 2012 convention!
I hail from the tiny sun-drenched island of Malta, and have now been into photography for a few years. One thing you might soon notice is that I am really not interested much in gear, f-stops, and such.
My interest in photography is related to the medium as a form of artistic expression. In my world, gear is irrelevant - It's only the artist who is relevant. Technique is important, of course, and it is the means by which we can translate what we have in mind into a photograph, but that's just the surface. There is an infinity of depth beyond technique and that is what I strive to discover.
When I started off, I was the idealist who thought he knew everything. Today I'm a realist who knows he knows nothing. I failed my licenciate, and a year later failed my associate. That thought me a few lessons. Last year I finally managed to get my fellowship, so I can finally begin my journey into the depths of photography. Socrates said "True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing." So true - the more we learn, the clearer it becomes how little we know, and it is that knowledge that drives us to learn more.
My work is driven by the fascination I have with society, nature and the interaction between them. My work focuses mainly on architecture, street photography and abstract. I tend to work mostly in B&W, and print my own work.
I look forward to helping out and learning from everyone on this forum, and hope to see you in January.
