Hi Folks,

First ever post but been reading the forum for a while now...

Also been looking for a reasonable budget roll fed for a while now, resigning myself that I was probably better saving to buy brand new rather than ebay prices.

Then I stumbled across a UK supplier www.pixeda.com offering "Refurb 9550" for £250.

To cut to the chase, they apparently have restocked a largish uk company with new printers and taken in a stock of these used CP-9550DWs which their in house technician is refurbishing for resale. I've just taken receipt of mine for £250.00 + vat + £8.95 APS next day carriage.

All appears well, the printer isn't brand new but was supplied with 5"x7" spacers etc. Their communication was good, with emails confirming despatch and also emailing through a bespoke profile for the printer.

I'm not on their payroll or anything, but thought it worth a mention...

Just realised I've written CP-9550DWs...

What I meant was the plural of CP-9550DW (ie they apparently have a number in stock). They are the standard grey printer.

Just wanted to clarify that they aren't the 9550DWS red version for the click consoles only.

While I have absolutely no axe to grind here, and have never heard of Pixeda until now, I would warn against buying any dyesub printer that costs just £250.

Many dyesubs are heavily used, and bearing in mind that new, unused machines can be bought for just over £800 with more than enough media included allowing you to earn your money back very quickly I would urge caution when buying old technology such as the 9550

Hi Stuart,
Was just wondering if you have started using the printer yet as I am looking for a budget option to get started.

Regards

Well I have just bought one.... I bought another last week for £425, and it is perfect.   I will let you know how I get on with this one.
It's £250 + VAT just to be clear.

Thanks Gary for the advice, it was something I did think about before buying. The issue for me is that £250+VAT is far more appealing at this point in time than £800+VAT, noting that event photography doesn't form the core of my business. My business plan was to spend the £1000 or so in due course, and having spoken to suppliers at Focus this year, having the 9550 has value as a trade-in when that time comes. All in all the £400 including VAT and media was a justifiable risk.

For what it's worth, as I understand it from the Pixeda MD, these machines have been office bound so haven't been bounced around in flight cases all their lives and have been serviced to sell.

Paul - Last weekend it performed flawlessly at a local dog show, printing off about 50 7x5's, in a tent running off a generator. Friday night will be it's other baptism of fire: I'm supporting a British Heart Foundation charity dance night in Blackpool as part of their current Mending Broken Hearts appeal (plug, plug)...
