Any opinions on it these?

I've not been with 3 before but am looking at a deal on their network with the Samsung Galaxy Europa.

The sales guy was the nicest and most helpful of all the networks I talked to in their shops yesterday but after sales is more important than up-front salesmen.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Europa I know it is a low end android phone but I don't care about bells and whistles... I only care about call clarity as I have a hearing issue. If anyone has one of these handsets, how do you find the audio clarity? Is sound clear or muffled? Can you raise the default volume of the earpiece significantly?

Would you rate or avoid?

I thought 3 phones only work within 100 meters of their stores!

I'd check someone's reception with a 3 phone where you live beforehand if I was you Mark.

That was certainly true on the first 3 phone I had - I'd only just become aware of them as a network at the time, but I know a lot of people using them with no problems now.

I agree with getting someone who lives near you to give you their opinion on signal strength in your area/street (home/office if you can get them in there).

Thanks, chaps. I'll post something to friends on FB to ask about signal around here.

What about customer service?

Anyone with the Galaxy?

Well my day job for many years was working with H3G (3) on acquiring and building their network.  At the initial stages back in 2001 the network was pretty small and although we didn't deal with the customers, we knew about the many issues they had as we were under a lot of pressure to geth the network built!

More recently 3 outsourced the networj deplyment team to Ericsson and for the last few yeras I've been involved in merging the H3G and T-Mobile networks (now just a single network managed by a shared company owned 50/50 by each).

So 3 and T-Mobile now have the best 3rd generation (3G) network in the UK by a fair margin and are always in the top two on the mobile network coverage chart - our targets are to keep them there.

Orange are also soon to join the single network meaning more base stations to be added to the network.

The other networks in the UK (Vodafone and O2) are still separate but they do share many sites between them.

For 3G coverage you will currently not get better than 3/TMO.

Always nice to hear the inside version. Thank you, James.

I've seen similar maps before but am always dubious as they come from the suppliers themselves rather than from user experience. Had someone whose views I respect say on FB that he gets great coverage just around the corner from me.

Right... so any views on the Galaxy then? Will it be ok for an old duffer who has listened to too much loud music and now has cloth ears?

No bother Mark Smiley Coverage will only get better as time goes on (we hope) :0

Re the Galaxy no experience with that but I love my HTC Desire. A fabulous machine.

"Phone" does not do these new devices any justice.
