George, you are flippin amazing so don't ever think differently. Sorry to hear about all your bad things happening at once, I know that feeling and to top it all my friend killed herself yesterday Undecided still, my life goes on eh? Life can be a bum sometimes. As for the poor quality seemingly doing well? There's loads of them out there. I like them as they make me feel better about the fact I value what I produce. If people wish to book them then I don't want them as a customer as they obviously have little skill in judging images. As others have said, send some images in! Your work is easily good enough! I want you to come down my way and show me how you flit with a couple of bands that are close to my heart Kiss

Man...really sorry to hear about that! I had to deal with that same thing about 7 years ago or so now. Sad

But, thank you very much....I am normally pretty good at picking up mispelling and things....but what is the sentence in bold suppose to say? Wink

I finally understand. Thought it was just a typo. I assumed that you typed "car" instead of "cat". So, just an odd "americanism" then, so no cat s**t to clean off the bed. I love this forum. You can learn soooo much.

Thanks Dave!! I was pretty pleased with the images they put up in the forum. Thought they made the wrong choices on sizes, but that wasn't for me to decide really. Cheesy

Hi George, I think we all know people on Facebook that are irritating Smiley If someone is THAT irritating then you can hide their posts; that way you are still friends with them but you don't have their irritating posts appear in front of you when you are trying to catch up with your other friends and family... you can also do the same with all the games/quizzes etc so you get a chance to see the posts from the people that really matter to you Smiley

As a photographer it is hard not to compare yourself to other people, but that can leave you feeling a bit down; especially when everything else seems to be going wrong at the same time.... I have found it much easier to concentrate on my business since I have stopped looking at most other photographers blogs/websites etc; there are a few people whose work I really admire that I keep up with for inspiration and motivation to improve....

Also, if you look at the MPA website and their awards you will see a real difference in the style of photograph chosen by the judges for the main awards and those picked by consumers for the consumer awards; what does this tell us ? It just goes to show that the photographs that clients like aren't necessarily the same ones that judges would rate highly for awards or qualifications... no surprise there really but worth remembering.... the judges don't pay your mortgage, your clients do Smiley

George, your "friend" will get found out sooner or later. Some people know their limitations, some just don't listen or learn and b******t their way through life. Your work is quality, and I'm sure you're proud of what you produce - I'd be delighted to do what you can do! Just keep going and forget about the pretender... Smiley

Well, first thing is to see whether she actually does have this commission or is it just a fancy status update?!?

If you want to do something then keep at it .... Have you contacted these magazines to offers your services?

Personally I'd not be too bothered as even if she does have the comission you are unlikely to know what she is getting.
She might be going it at cost, or worse (for free) and actually making a loss .

Like Lisa says much better to concentrate on promoting yourself. Contact your targets if you dont ask you will never get!
I fully understand that fact that often we are almost too shy for our own good, but this is what can make the difference between a very skiller but poor (in terms of cash) photographer , and a pretty average (in terms of skill) butsuccessful in terms of income. If you happen to be both you can do very very well
