Im climbing kilimanjaro a week after my 30th and wondered if anyone had done so before and if they had any recommendations for best camera kit to take.

plus if anyone wanted to donate i need to raise £3500 you can either visit my justgiving page at http://www.justgiving.com/keithskiliclimb or simply Text KAKC83 £1 to 70070 to donate £1 you can change the amount but must be whole pounds.

Hi Keith,

Assuming you are carrying everything then I would go as light weight as possible ! As for lenses..... not sure on that one....

Keith, I have a couple of photographer friends who are also doing this climb in January, and they've been recommended not to take anything too heavy, such as their 5Ds and lenses, even though the photo opportunities should be fantastic, due to the effects of altitude on their bodies. Of course, it may be possible to ask your porters to take the kit instead, or invest in an x100!

my pack suggested to take a SLR so was thinking of a small slr such as my 500d but it was the lens that was proving the tricky option do i also stay small with 50 mm or go for a telephoto.

Susan woudl be a good person to speak to on that front
since she did Manu Picu etc .

Personally I'd take your small 500d and a medium zoom
perhaps somthing like the 17-85mm.

Small compact light and also a decent lens
