I'd like to knock smoking on the head also but do really enjoy it. My new years resolution is to work on one idea at a time rather than having loads of things on at once. I'd also like to read more as I don't read much appart from the odd magazine and reading things on the internet. I love philosophy and want to read more about that. I've wanted to write a book for a while to so hopefully I'll get cracking with that So many things but not all resolutions just things I want to do really

Eat more bad things Eat less good things (just being realistic)
Get my A Get 5 wedding related golds
I think if I achieve the last two then 2012 will be a successful year.

Short term: Finish my business plan (although I plan to do that today), continue to work on my marketing strategy, book and complete 2 baby shoots for my portfolio (Jan), begin to work towards my L, invest in studio lighting (once my wedding is out of the way and I can spend!) Medium term: attend training relating to lighting and photographing newborns, get 'x' amount of bookings (to be worked out in my BP). Long term: achieve my L (hopefully before the end of the year).
Thanks for the thread - given me a chance to focus!

I don't do New Year's Resolutions and have not for some time. I set my goals at other times of the year. For example in the middle of this year I decided to start getting fitter and I now swim and run every week and am enjoying doing so. If I had started at the New Year I would probably have let it lapse way too easy. For those of you setting your resolutions though author and scientist Richard Wiseman (who needs no introduction if you know of his work but if you have not heard of him you might have heard about his books such as the Luck Factor, Quirkology or 59 Seconds) has blogged this about resolutions http://richardwiseman.wordpress.com/2011/12/28/how-to-keep-your-new-years-resolutions/Hope it is useful to you.

The only resolution I managed to keep was one I made 5 years ago: To NEVER make another New Year Resolution!
Anyway, I quit the weed a month ago, and although the smokers out there will know that's a short period of time, I knew on day 1 that I would never smoke another cigarette again! Not a single pang of withdrawal since day 1.

While I didn't manage to do all I set out in that thread (still working on business processes), I've anaged to not have a cigarette (or any other smooking thing such as cigar or pipe) since 30th January. Almost a year without one and I can happily say that I really don't miss it any more. Smokers can pay much more tax than me, I used to but not any more This year, I intend to get L and work towards A
