Hi guys,

Posting a fair bit on this tonight but the misses is out tonight and the little one is
in her bed!

Anyway my brothers father in law emailed me the other day with a fairly high resolution
scan of an artists canvas. It is roughly 20x20 inches. He told me the original canvas
costs around £4500 but he wasn't willing to pay for it so he asked if I could see how big
it was and see if I could get it printed.

Only thing is I don't know if this scan is legit however it is high resolution, I know I
wouldn't like anyone doing this to me so I think I might just tell him I can't do anything
with it.

Yep thought it was. Thanks for clearing it up!!  Grin

I'd like to think in an ideal world even if I did try to print it the printers
would decline!! I know some do but not all!

Just reply that you want written permission to print from the artist as its illegal otherwise. Obviously he won't have it. If by some miracle he produces it you should be able to confirm it with the artist (but I'm 99.99999999999999999999999999999999% sure he won't have it)

Sadly most people don't know anything about copyright... my parents are prime examples - they had "borrowed" and image from photographer who had printed a calendar (they scanned it!)  I was horrified when I found out.  They had used it to print about 3000 mugs!  They were lovely but they were caught and paid the price - with 3000 mugs they couldn't use! (well we have all been using them - they couldn't be sold!)  - That was years ago and they well and truly learnt their lesson the hard way - it's just not worth it!

Yep it just shows you it's not just the general public that need educated!

My brother has just asked me to do a job for the company he works for so I said that I would do it but I charge such and such an hour for location commercial, so he says hmm might have to do it for a bit less, so I said okay since you work for them that's fine. Then he said well it's alright though your photos will be on their website so people will see them. I was like yes! that IS what they are paying me for after all! That kind of exposure hardly brings in any more work! I do have bills to pay! He just said it's better than nothing!

What would happen if you told a waiter that you wouldn't be paying for the meal but instead you would tell your friends about the really good food that the restaurant serves?

But digital photography can be done for free!

Hello Calum.
This would be more than your jobs worth.!
An artists work being copied is not looked on very favourably by the court and a good copyright lawyer could cause you to lose a very large sum of money.
We can put anyone in touch with one of the best Copyright lawyers in the UK.
Regards.
