I'm just past the 1 year point since having a smoke and I can tell you that it
does get easier. Much easier!
I was part of the Fife NHS trust "quitfit" campaign and have, this afternoon, been contacted to ask if I'd be willing to be part of their new advertising campaign for it - just a small interview and my picture in the adverts. While I have no desire to be part of the holier-than-thou brigade of ex-smokers, if I can help even one other person quit the horrible things, then I will try.
My own quitting was achieved using 2 NRT things; patches and the inhalator. I used the patches as normal and the inhalator as and when I got a strong craving. After 12 weeks, the patches stopped (as normal) and I continued to have the inhalator with me for a while after, but a couple of weeks after the end of the patches, I didn't even have a cartridge in it.
At the one year point, I visited the quitfit folks to tell them
thankyou for helping me through that first part of quitting. Probably why I got the phone call this afternoon
