Got a phone call this afternoon, "Can you confirm recent transactions on your account" out of the 10 listed only 1 was mine thankfully 1 for over £1,000 (at overclockers.com) was declined but they got away with another £2,500 hopefully get it back as I recently took out protection on this account.  I hardly ever use this card and think I will only use it inside the bank for quite a while after this, b****y G**s

Really sorry to hear about this.  It's frightening how many similar stories you hear about card fraud.

I suppose if you are able to take any positives from this it is that your bank at least contacted you about it rather than you having to wait for your statement and the fact you have protection should mean you get it back relatively quickly.  Still a pain in the backside though.

Hope it gets sorted quickly for you.

Gareth, you've got my sympathies. I had over 2 grand stolen from my account last year from a transaction in the middle east. Thankfully Abbey reimbursed in full...scarey though as its over 20 years since i visited that area, and that was only a touch down for aircraft refuelling!

hope you get it sorted mate, phil

I had a call from a card company the other day about a couple of transactions made on a card that I rarely use. Thankfully it was me who had made them but really glad to get the callas it shows they are watching the account.
Good luck with this Phil, I hope the you get it all refunded.

Whenever you get a phone call "from your bank", I hope you do make sure it's kosher.  It's one of the classic phishing tricks to tell the customer about unauthorised use which puts most people into a panic.  Then they get your numbers when your guard is down!

Not a pleasant experience Gareth. One thing.. do you need to get the extra protection they sell for the cards? I had thought (for credit cards anyway, not sure about debit cards) that as long as you weren't negligent with the card the CC company were obliged to cover the loss. Please someone tell me otherwise if this isn't the case, so I can get some protection! I use my CC for most online transactions.

The first time I had a call from the CC company querying transactions, I was highly skeptical. They asked for what seemed to be very sensitive information to confirm my bank details. Now I know when to expect a call.. funnily enough everytime I buy a domain name from 'Joker.com'  Roll Eyes

2004 I was doing a seminar in Altrincham with Phil and Juls when an announcement came ove that I urgently needed to contact home. Talk about being gob smacked I didn't know what to imagine. Turns out my credit card had been compromised, someone had bought a bunch of airline tickets and charged them to my card.

Fortunately most high value credit cards in this country come with automatic protection, so it didn't cost me an real money, however, because of all that, at the end of month I paid 76 cents short of the full amount and so Capital One, the card issuer, tried to charge me interest on all my next months purchases, guess who's never use a Capital One card since.

Gareth I hope it all works out for the best for you.

Will find out more on Monday, but I can be assured it was the Bank as they also contacted me today, to check if I had purchased anything yesterday afternoon using a CC, which I had - some pw's and a 580 exii (better than chocolate) (oh and no card details were requested) so they are wartching all my accounts.  Will be changing the account which was compromised, just a pain in the posterior as that is the one which I use to pay my monthly bills etc.

Thanks all for the chin up encouragement

I had sort of the opposite happen to me. I was traveling in Thailand and used my credit card in a machine out there, when the machine blocked it and told me to contact my bank. stupidly not taken much travellers cheques as i had been there 5 months earlier and used my credit card in machines to with draw as it worked out cheaper. Now know to ring and say where i am travelling to so it does not happen.
