OK so I have been out of the country these past twenty two years, since 1985 to be precise,  reading this thread it is beginning to look like George Orwell's 1984 has taken on a life of it's own.

I suppose that's what you get for joining Europe, you know the bigger the cow, the bigger the @#$% behind it.

Many's the time I have dreamed of coming home, but reading stuff like this makes me think I'd be a foreigner in my own counrty. God Forbid.

I've been across to America a couple of times, on both occasions I've been offered jobs and even a potential housing plot on land owned by friends and although there's a load of stuff happening over there that's truely weird [even according to the Americans] I'd be out there tomorrow.  For many of the reasons discussed above and more this country is becoming a police state while we sleep! 

Unfortunatly my good lady wants to stay here....drat!!

By standrad, this is a lawless land, if you're white, wealthy and dishonest you can get away with anything, the only difference is that yanks are by nature a litigous people, but you even even buy judges.

Secondly... SWPP is going to continue to carry the service...

There is no law [as yet] that says that you are required to have a CRB check, ring your SWPP legal service for confirmation, however many organisations who hire you require you to have one, the choice as to whether you get one is yours, their choice is whether they hire you or not?

As to the SWPP still providing them, I heard they weren't any longer and you can get them cheaper if you look around?

Just had an email from my teacher friend who had hassle from the CRB, who mixed up their data.  Instead of giving him a clean bill of health, they found a long list of "offences" that he was alleged to have committed.  The school withdrew the offer of a senior teaching post as a result and he has been unemployed since then.  Finally, CRB have admitted that they made a mistake and sent him a compensation cheque for a massive £450.  He is now taking legal advice about an action for defamation.  Those who are familiar with Kafka's "The Trial" will find this quite normal!
