It has been brought to my attention that there are some acidic and childish comments on the DWF forum concerning the subject I shoot and the subjects I choose to point my camera at, especially those whom were working at the convention.

Top marks for the bitching guys but really if you have "Constructive criticism" that you think will further my career (I could always do with a few more full pages in Vogue) then please do it on a forum that I can at least respond to... or are you concerned that my bite IS worse than my bark?

I don't really care what you say about me because I have been there and done most things... way more than the masses but I think it a little "Off" when you criticise the girls.

Grow up or address me direct

I have asked for my DWF membership to be cancelled as a result of that thread.  I have had enough of the negativity of the UK photographers, unfortunately many of those complaining and moaning are not SWPP members so are unlikely to see this.

I think it is just considered cool to be negative on there.   Moan but don't try and improve anything.  Gordon will vouch that I asked for my membership to be cancelled at lunchtime (coz I told him!)and I intend to surround myself with happy, positive people from now on  Grin

That's exactly the reason I don't go there any more.  This forum is much friendlier.

Despite my normal verbosity on this forum, I haven't posted with them for over a year for similar reasons.  I'll be terminating mine too.  Rest assured if I have something to say (negative or otherwise) the recipient is always the first to hear of it.  Even when I'm in full rant mode I do try to be constructive with my sometimes sardonic wit.  They are very naughty noo noos and should be given a detention.   Tongue

It does seem to be the sort of environment that encourages negativity and spitefullness.
Sorry to hear you've been having such a bad experience with it.

I stopped going there almost as quickly as I joined, I'm young and new at all this Pro Photography business and didnt need the absolute slating and general unhelpfulness that I received on a thread there in the beginning.

People on this forum are generally more helpful and mature.

I have not seen the thread as I only really go on this forum but having met the models you had with you at the convention and seen them work with you, (especially Steve) they could not have been more fun or professional if they had tried. They really looked like they were having fun; and Chritiana's (I hope I got that right Damien) attempt to add bunny ears to you when you had your back to her just goes to show what respect and admiration they have for you and the way you treat them.

Stuff those who cannot respect these people for who they are Angry

Yep - what you guys said. I didn't renew my membership as I found them to be a pretty petty and negative bunch. partybeer

Okay..... I agree 100% that the bulk of the posts are negative and unpleasant. BUT I'm going to stick my neck on the line here and say..... I was by no means the only person who thought a few things involving models in very public areas of the hotel and trade show, were not in good taste and I had a few people comment to me about it. I also saw the look of shock on some faces on more than one occasion. Not everyone wants to see a model in a see through latex suit when they go to a trade show to buy a camera, or even see a naked woman posing in public as they go about their business. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just saying we need to be careful as we all have different ideas of what is 'tasteful' and what is not.

I know there is a place for certain types of shoot at the event, but can't we keep them for private areas in the future...and maybe be careful what goes on the website after?

your entitled to your opinion John but I believe the majority are happy about it. If you have lectures by industry established fetish, fashion glamour and nude photographers then what does one expect. People need to expand their blinkered, negative minds, and realise shooting nudes etc is the hardest discipline to master and look at the use of light on the materials and subjects... bottom line if you don't like what you see then don't look... I stand by my belief that everything was done professionally... wedding photographers generally aspire to climb the ladder to shoot the type of commissions I do.

Photography needs a more "Rock n Roll" attitude if it isn't to slip into mediocrity

I know exactly what you are saying, but I also feel it doesn't need to be done in public where people don't have a choice whether they see it or not, that's all I am saying.

I aspire to lots of things, mostly quite happy to aspire to one day be as good as Gordon McGowan and his like. I think you are fantastic at what you do and don't have any issues with it. Nudes don't bother me one bit. I am just concerned for others and don't want folk from other forums and organisations having opportunities to put down our great society.

That's all I am saying.

John why should we worry what the photographers on other forums think I for one dont give a toss what they think ..let them be narrow minded regarding nudity  the next thing will be the banning of spiderman walking thru the reception area in case it frightens the kids  God help us all
