I am soooooo glad...........

that my car doesn't emit just 4g/km more or I'd be in real trouble!

Increases in child tax credit always welcome though!

Any big winners or losers here?

didn't hear it, but my car is new, I don't smoke, barely drink and don't have kids, so I often dodge quite a bit come budget time..

The other day, ITV news had a piece about increases in the cost of living over the past year - pretty well all the basic things like milk by 20% and eggs by 40%!  How do they make inflation two point something percent?

Many people like to drown their sorrows, or smoke to cal their frazzled nerves and the rotters have hit that too!

Yeah I've just deleted that - the allowance in the general pool for existing items is actually being reduced, from 25% to 20%

Just going back for fine detail on the new allowance - isn't that the year after?

Hang on a minute - no it does say 08/09 - but the items are as yet "subject to consultation" and this conflict with the SME FYWDA 50% allowance being "extended for another 12 months"

Confused?

Still trying to find stuff on it also, it seems it was tucked away in 2007:

Capital Allowances: Plant and Machinery: Annual Investment Allowance (AIA)
Legislation will be included in Finance Bill 2008 to introduce a new AIA for the first £50,000 of a business’s expenditure on most plant and machinery each year. This forms part of the business tax reform package announced at Budget 2007.

On and after 1 April / 6 April 2008 most businesses, regardless of size, will be able to claim the new AIA on the first £50,000 spent on most plant or machinery assets subject to anti avoidance measures to deal with matters of control, related entities and artificial uses of the AIA.

Certain exceptions that apply to FYAs will continue to have effect for the purposes of the AIA. The main exception is expenditure on cars. However, unlike SME FYAs, the AIA will be available for expenditure on long-life assets and assets for leasing.

Spend £3k on a camera 07/08 tax year = claim £1500 against tax.
Spend £3k on a camera 08/09 tax year = claim £3k against tax. Smiley

(as far as I can see)
