Hiya!

I've had a flick through the workshop list for the convention and am feeling a little overwhelmed to say the least! My experience to date has been with macro/wildlife but I'm hoping to improve my portrait work (posing and technical pointers required!).

Can anyone lend a little guidance and perhaps recommend workshops that they think would be useful to a newbie in this area? Also, any recommendations for good speakers in the nature/wildlife field would be great!

Thanks gang!

For portraits Michael Turner and Mark Ashworth will both be really good - certainly I am hoping to go to them.  And me, of course, if you photograph kids.

I would also really recommend David Ward and Joe Cornish for their landscape work.  They are both absolutely phenomenal photographers.

Thanks Helen - I've heard of David and Joe so was leaning towards attending their lectures anyway. It's nice to have even a distant relative who's a renowned photographer!  Wink

Hi Adrian

I really love the conference, but the one thing that really frustrates me is deciding which of the workshops to attend. I spend ages trawling through the websites of each speaker then planning my way through it all, and just when I think I am happy I discover that two of the classes I am most looking forward to are on at the same time! I don't know if other people experience the same frustration, a quick glance at the schedule tells me that there are around 15 classes happening simultaneously at any given time. I assume it is a logistical nightmare to fit everything in and way beyond my skills to organise, so I do appreciate the hard work of the administration team, but I wonder if there is a way to ease the congestion, my only thought is to make use of the Tues, Wed and Thursday.

God bless
Dave

I came across the same problem when looking at the schedule that a few of the classes I wanted to attend are on at the same time, the only ive been able to work around it is that my friend is coming along with me and she will go to one class whilst I'll go to another, doesnt work with all scenarios but at least we can swap notes after  Smiley

The Superclasses are sold out. Though he still has places on his Full-Day seminar and his masterclass will be on a first come first served basis.

hello adrian,
i would not worry too much if i were you.
if you're prepared to be up and ready for 8am and stick around 'til around 8pm, i think it makes little difference who or what you see .... i am certain, you will find that anyone invited to speak at the convention, will be truly inspirational and a tremendous help to your photography in general.
.... and of course, specialists in your particular 'field' would obviously be an added bonus.
good luck with your plans.
kind regards,
david

Blimey Dave must have taken the happy pills (blo**y hippy) but I concur the convention this year was jam packed with fantastic masterclasses and short of having them on for a month one at a time no one gets to do it all - a good reason to come back on the following year.
